Art Exhibitions

Art exhibitions are frequently displayed in galleries; however the term could refer to any installation where artworks are displayed to an audience.

There are many factors which have to be considered when art exhibitions are arranged, particularly when very valuable or rare works are on display. Art exhibitions cause the works to be subject to a number of potentially damaging environmental factors and many works are stored carefully and only displayed at art exhibitions for limited periods. Light is one of the most significant causes of damage to works on display in art exhibitions, particularly paintings which are very susceptible to damage from light. For this reason the level of light has to be carefully controlled in art exhibitions so it allows people to view the paintings comfortably, but is not maintained at a level which could cause damage to artworks. Humidity and temperature are also environmental factors which need to be kept in check at art exhibitions.

There are numerous different types of art exhibitions and the amount and variety of work being displayed often varies significantly. Art exhibitions focusing on one specific artist often will include numerous works from the artist’s past allowing people who view the exhibition a retrospective look at the artist’s work.
